Coach Stech

Edward Stech
What did Da Crusher, Dick the Bruiser, Mad Dog Vachon, Killer Kowalski and Mr. Ed Stech have in common? ---- All were affiliated with wrestling in the 1950's and 60's. However, only Mr. Stech was the head wrestling coach at West Allis Central.

Mr. Stech also taught American History and World History at Central High School from the middle 1950's until 1973 when he moved to the “new” Central as A-V Coordinator. He retired in 1985.

He coached wrestling at Central from 1956 to 1975. He was inducted into the George Martin (Wisconsin) Amateur Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1977 and in 1998 he was named to the Wisconsin Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. Mr. Stech remains active in the wrestling program at Central by serving as Tournament Director.

Since his retirement, Mr. Stech has traveled extensively in both the U.S. and Europe. He has visited a former exchange student in Denmark, and regularly visits friends in the Czech Republic and Switzerland. He also is active in church work serving as an elder for many years.

Although Mr. Stech is unable to attend the reunion Memorial Breakfast, he was instrumental in contacting many of our former teachers regarding our reunion. He also extended his “best wishes” for a great reunion and many future reunions.
